My mission update of June 8, 2015
Monday we helped someone in the ward move and then we went to a lesson with Chimene. We brought with us a member who was part of the “Original 12” missionaries that were sent to Haiti when it was opened for missionary work. He loves speaking Creole and was so excited to talk with Chimene and her son. It is amazing how fast the church has grown in Haiti, opened for missionary work in the 80s and already with a temple in plans!
The next day was so fun! We had a short lesson with Nelcia and then went over to do the makeup and hair for the graduation of one of the Young Women in the ward. We had offered to do it earlier in the month and she actually took us up on it! Sister Willis did most of the hair and I did most of the makeup, and she looked SO pretty. She liked it so much that she asked us to do the makeup for her Prom in two weeks. Later that night we went to Ward Council.
The next day we had District Meeting and practiced using the book of Mormon more in Finding situations. We had a lesson with an investigator and she ended up taking us out for ice cream in her little red convertible. We had our lesson while walking around the park in the old town at sunset. What a lovely memory.
Thursday we did community service, but they don’t want us to wear our tags so we might not go again. Then we planned for the week and taught a lesson. On Friday we had a lesson with an investigator. Later in the night we played volleyball with the youth. We were supposed to help them out with a bike relay but the weather was unsavory so we stayed in the building. It was fun to get to know the youth better, it brings me back to when I was a youth and I thought missionaries were wandering holy men with an unlimited and unending knowledge of the scriptures. How time has changed.
The next day we were supposed to do soccer but the people who usually come were distracted by a soccer game on TV and didn’t show up. Sunday we passed by some members as all of our appointments didn’t go through.
I love you!
