Meredith’s mission update April 25, 2016

This week we finished up the exchanges and for my last 4 weeks as a missionary I am technically switching areas and getting not one but two new companions. I am staying in the same ward but they are shutting down the area I came into and merging it with another area. Other than that the week was quite nice. We continue to try to talk with every stranger we come in contact with and eat anything labeled with “saveur d’érable.” I was going to move apartments and had finished most of my packing, but then the mission office informed me that I will not be changing apartments after all.

I am amazed by how the Lord wants to help us in seemingly small but important ways.  He knows more than we do, and all we really have to do is follow the Spirit. We were in a situation the other day where we had to choose between two people to see. We had planned to see one person, but we had gotten a bad phone number from him although we had set up an appointment. The other person seemed more likely. Logically, it seemed like we had a clear choice, but I felt something telling me that we should see this man who had given us a bad number. We went and saw him, and he is now an investigator with a baptismal date. I remember a Sunday school teacher saying that if you follow the Spirit you will have no regrets, and I have found that that is true, every day.

I love you all!!

3 Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do.

4 Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye ask not, neither do ye knock; wherefore, ye are not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark.

5 For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do.

Book of Mormon, 2 nephi 32:3-5

Meredith’s mission update April 18, 2016

obligtory mtc map photo 12-9-2014On Monday among other things we enjoyed the drizzly weather around Cote-des-Neiges. Later we had some delicious Haitian food at a members house (although I have never actually had Haitian food that was not delicious). Tuesday someone gave us a bad address and we walked across literally our entire area to find it. Then someone wasn`t there for our appointment. After though we had dinner with our bishop`s family so that made up for it. Wednesday we were extremely busy all day, and I started MyPlan, which is a program for missionaries in their last six weeks to prepare for normalcy.  It is quite fun.
On Thursday we had another very busy day with lessons and planning. Friday I was on exchange. We visited a lot of people. It is starting to get warmer, and we are taking advantage of it! On Saturday I was on another exchange, this time with the companion I had in Ottawa for six months. It was fun to be companions with her for one more day! Sunday we had stake conference. I was able to see a lot of people from Terrebonne, my second area. I love them so much!

As a missionary sometimes the love you feel for the people you have served with is so great that it is truly indescribable. I can`t express it, but I know that it must be because serving helps you feel Heavenly Father`s love for people in such a profound way. I love you all!!

image.jpegThis past week I was mainly at home taking various medicines and trying to sleep. I do feel so much better though! We had two exchanges and the sisters that stayed with me just took care of me at home. It was very nice.  We had a Zone Conference on Friday, and it turned out well. I felt a little bad that I haven`t done a lot of real missionary work in the past three weeks. I know this week will be much different. I love you all!

From Meredith’s mom~~We are so grateful that Meredith’s feeling better this week, and we thank you for your prayers and concern for her.  Following is a note from the sister pictured above who was in Meredith’s MTC group.  She is going home in 2 weeks and had an exchange with Meredith a few weeks ago:

“Had to take a picture with sweet Sister Hanna on our exchange. The whole 6 weeks in the MTC we talked about how one day we would be companions and then for our entire missions we were in separate zones until my last 2 transfers as she is now my STL (Sister Training Leader) and so for my last exchange of the mission, our dream came true and she was my companion for a blissful 24 hours 🙂 It was unreal being back together and realizing how much had happened since our MTC days. She is a fabulous person and missionary <3”

Meredith’s mission update April 4, 2016

Monday we proselyted instead of having our preparation day because in Canada the Monday following Easter Sunday is a federal Holiday, so more people were at home and out and about. On Tuesday we had Preparation Day and went to a cute little market near our apartment to buy produce. It actually was a lot cheaper than the grocery store and they also had a lot of Québec maple products. The funny thing about it is that the market is a 24/7 outdoor market, which I have never seen before.
Wednesday we were on exchanges, and I got to be with a friend from the MTC. We always joked that we would finally get to be companions at the end of our missions, and for this one day that was true! We had fun reminiscing on our missions, which have been so different but perfect for each of us. Thursday I started feeling weak in the morning, which I tried to brush off but it kept persisting. My cough all of a sudden got awful, and during a District Meeting my companion and I were visiting I realized that I was not ok. I won`t go into my symptons but it wasn`t pretty. Unfortunately we had a lot of appointments, and so we arranged things so that I could stay with senior missionaries for the day and my companion could be with other missionaries. The next few days are a blur of not sleeping, vomiting, fever, and calling my mission presdent`s wife who is in charge of all missionary health issues. I am so thankful to my companion who has been so patient in nursing me to health, making me soup & herbal tea, taking calls, and being so understanding, and for the senior couple who yesterday let us watch Conference at their house and catered to my every need. I am so thankful for my mission presidents wife who is always checking in on me, and for the elders that put their suits back on at 10pm when the mission president asked them to come to my apartment and give me a blessing. I have never felt more dépendent on people in my life, and I have honestly never been this sick in my life either.  But I am thankful for this experience and that Heavenly Father puts such special people in our lives to Helen take care of us. Yesterday I actually got 5 hours of sleep so things are looking up. I love you all!

**Dear friends and family,  Please keep Meredith in your prayers.  As is typical, her email is upbeat and optimistic, but she has a bad case of strep throat.  She has been to the doctor, but she isn’t sleeping well because of coughing, congestion and her painful sore throat.  To top it off, as of yesterday she has pink eye.  Please pray that she can have a speedy recovery and get back to her regular schedule.  Thank you so much!!

Meredith’s mission update March 29, 2016

This week was such a miracle. Even though I was sick for its entirety with the flu and bronchitis we were able to get out a couple times, and when we did we were able to teach five new people messages about Jesus Christ and the Easter season. The Lord really helped me to teach the lessons and to perservere until I could get home, where I just slept, coughed, and blew my nose.  It was a little sad because Easter time is a great time to be out visiting people as much as usual, but alas. It was also quite cold considering we are in the end of March. But things are looking up this week, and I am feeling a ton better! I am so thankful for the Spirit which makes up for the things we lack!

Don’t forget general conference this weekend!
